Case Study - Babes in the Wood

Concept Websites Ltd created a static brochure style web site almost 2 years ago for local company Babes in the Wood as an introduction to the Internet. The web site soon started to attract visits and before long people were contacting the shop wanting to buy the traditional wooden baby cots and cribs.

"Once the enquiry level reached 100 visits per day we realised that we needed to do more to convert some of this traffic into sales," said David White of Concept Websites Ltd.

We pointed out to Dawn Baron who runs the shop that if she was getting over 500 people every week walking into her shop and only 3 or 4 were buying goods then there was a problem. This is effectively what was happening on the web site.
The solution was to create an on-line shop with shopping cart facilities and credit card payment options. This meant that people could browse the site any time night or day and could actually place an order for goods and make the payment. Concept also pointed out that people in the market for a baby cot would also need a mattress, sheets and all other baby related accessories, and suggested the inclusion of these products also.
Dawn and her staff crammed the site with cots, sheets, pillows, toys, potties, teddies and any other items that the shop sold. The specification of the web site meant that Dawn had total control so that she could add and remove products herself and change prices and stock without having to contact Concept Websites Ltd.
The web site, which was part funded by the local Business Link, was literally an overnight success, with orders in excess of £700 coming in the first week alone!
Dawn is currently processing an International order from the US Government to supply baby feeding bottles to Ghana. The order for an initial 400 bottles was placed on the web site overnight and processed the following day. A second order soon followed and Babes In The Wood are more than excited at the prospect of a 'very substantial order' from the USA imminently.
The power of effective search engine promotion of web sites on the Internet has proved that a small retail shop in Brigg can trade on a truly International stage.. www.babes-in-the-wood.co.uk
