For ecommerce entrepeneurs who have been waiting for shoppers, a new report by Continental Research identifies why many consumers still shy away from venturing online.
"The three most important issues to be addressed include cost of Internet services, speed of Internet connections and familiarity with how the Internet works. The main obstacle to people going online more is not a lack of interesting content, it's the investment in time and money needed to view the relevant site." says Colin Shaddick, director at Continental Research.
Despite these obstacles, Internet use in the UK is on the rise. The current number of internet users is 17.3 million, up from last years 13 million, the report says. The increase comes from people using the internet from home, work or college, and it has been boosted by an increasing number of women and blue collar workers logging on.
