Porsche 997

Looking at a “new” Porsche 997 is always fascinating, not least because it is interesting to see how Porsche has developed a model range that has become something of an icon such as the C2S Turbo. After more than 40 years of development it must get harder and harder to make quantum leaps in design and engineering.

I am sure you will have already read articles introducing and test-driving the Porsche 997 or indeed the Porsche Cayenne or 996 Turbo. This article includes all the important core information on the new models.

The new Porsche 997 is actually 38mm wider than the 996 Turbo creating a more aggressive look, but it is still some 22mm narrower than the wide body C2S Coupe and Porsche Cayenne models. As each new model is introduced Porsche has aimed to reduce the drag co-efficient helping the 997 “slide” through the air more effectively, hence aiding performance.

The latest model is no exception and despite taking some of it’s styling cues from the Porsche 996 Turbo we only need to compare the Porsche 997 to it to see how far the aerodynamic game has moved on. The latest body shell & rear wing combine with new underbody paneling to also offer increased levels of down force for this latest evolution of Porsche's finest such as the Porsche Cayenne.
