The Commitments Tribute Band:
The Komittments
The Commitments (1987) is a novel by Irish writer Roddy Doyle and is the first episode in The Barrytown Trilogy. It is a tale about a group of teenagers in Dublin, Ireland. The teenagers are a mismatched group with no talent that decide to start a Rhythm and Blues (R&B) band. They quickly start learning how to play their instruments and perform a number of local gigs. As with most of Roddy Doyle's other works, the characters are complex and evolve throughout the book.
The book was made into a movie of the same name in 1991, directed by Alan Parker and starring Robert Arkins, Andrew Strong, Michael Aherne, Angeline Ball, Maria Doyle, Bronagh Gallagher, Johnny Murphy, and a large supporting cast.
Some of the band members from the movie have since formed a group that tours under the name "The Commitments".
